Why Data Visualisation?!

Visuals have always been the simpler method of narrating stories. The human brain automatically attracts information through charts or graphs that visualize large amounts of complex data, instead of text. Data visualisation is a quick, easy way to convey concepts. Data visualisation is also deeply rooted in measurable facts.

    1. Workshop Format
    IndiaSpend’s DataViz Workshop is an interactive, 2 hours (including a 15 minute) break session hosted online on Zoom. There will be no more than 20 participants for the workshop. This will be a mix of theory and practice exercises along with discussions. Any experience level is welcome. Questions will be taken after every segment.

    4. Requirements
    • All participants must bring their own laptop for use during this workshop and it must be WiFi ready.
    • The level of this workshop is for beginners. No previous data visualisation experience is required.
    • Participants must be comfortable with technical subjects and learning in a fast-paced environment.
    • Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets or Google Drive is recommended.

    Shreya Raman is an independent journalist based in Mumbai. In 2021, she was selected for the Global Nutrition and Food Security Fellowship by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), Tableau Equal Measures 2030 Data Journalism Fellowship, and the Spotlight Media Fellowship.

    Prachi Salve is a Research Manager with IndiaSpend. She has two master’s degrees: In economics from Mumbai University and in Development Studies from the University of Sussex. She has been a Research Assistant at the Institute of Development Studies (UK) and the Young Foundation (UK).
